Privacy in IFA FarmRecon

Plain-English summary. Prototype version, October 2026.

What we always store

Your account (username, role, a scrambled password hash), the growers, field assignments, zones and scouting notes you enter, and "I wish…" feedback you send. These stay with IFA FarmRecon.

"Help us train FarmRecon" (off unless you turn it on)

If you turn it on, we record how you use the app: which screens and layers you view, territories and field IDs you open, buttons you tap (draw a zone, make a report, search), and how long a session lasts. We store your user ID and company brand with each event.

We do not record your note text, grower names, search words, or report contents. Searches are logged only as "a search with N letters and M results".

"Field-day tracking" (separate, off unless you turn it on)

If you turn it on, the app records your location only while the app is open and only during the work hours you set (default Mon–Sat, 6 am–7 pm). A banner shows whenever it is on, and you can pause or stop with one tap.

We save a GPS point about every 1–2 minutes or 100 m, match points to field boundaries to work out field visits (which field, arrival, departure, minutes on site), and add up daily miles and stops. Raw GPS points are deleted automatically after 30 days; the field-visit list is kept.

Phones stop web apps from tracking in the background, so nothing is recorded when the app is closed or the screen is off.

If you are a grower

Pins you drop with "Ask my agronomist" are always shared with your linked advisor, including the spot, type, note, photo and replies. That's what they're for, and the app says so before you send. Your advisor and your company's admins can see them. Fields you star are shared with your advisor so you both get NDVI-drop alerts.

If you also turn on "Help us train FarmRecon", your advisor can see which map areas you looked at most (roughly 1 km squares, from where the map sat), next to your pins and starred fields, so they can follow up on what you're watching. With it off, they see only your pins and starred fields. Growers don't see other growers' pins, advisor notes, zones or reports.

Who can see it

You can see your own field-day history in Settings. Your company's IFA FarmRecon admins can see per-advisor summaries (fields visited, time in fields, miles, how fast fields got a visit after a satellite drop) on the Insights page. We don't sell this data or share it outside your company.

Your choices

Turn either option off any time in Settings, which stops recording right away. In Settings you can also download your usage data and delete your usage data or your field-day history.

Satellite data

Contains modified Copernicus Sentinel data. Field boundaries come from USDA NASS (public domain).
